- Abstract
- This dissertation is concerned with the problems of foreign exchange risk management in international business. The problem became more significant to businessmen when the major currencies were "floated" in the early 1970s. Since then the foreign exchange market has experienced erratic and unpredictable exchange rate fluctuations affecting the foreign income streams of companies with international operations and/or transactions. The key issues on foreign exchange risk management that will be discussed in this study are the nature of the foreign exchange market, the relevance of foreign exchange risk management, measuring exposure to foreign exchange risk and managing foreign exchange exposure in the international business. These issues are considered from a conceptual and empirical approach, emphasising the usefulness of the findings to the practical world in which a firm operates.
