Abstract
  • This research in contributing towards making 'human action' in strategy research (Jarzabkowski et al., 2007) more decipherable explores the concept of emotional autonomy with respect to strategic change in two financial organisations. Based on the Lacan's psychoanalytical theories, emotional autonomy is conceptualised here in terms of subjection, detachment and individuation - subjective phases that a subject goes through in seeking an individual sense of selfhood. In this empirical research, the subjective aspects of the practitioners and the actual 'doing' in the process of enabling strategic change are located in their discursive representations. Hence a discourse analysis perspective informed by Lacan's theory of discourse is adopted and its potential for strategy research outlined.
