- This thesis consists of two parts: an excerpt from a novel in progress, The Collapse, and a commentary discussing the themes of the novel, how they relate to three specific texts which have provided significant inspiration, a short synopsis of the major plotlines of the book, and a summary of other inspirational works.The presented excerpt from the novel consists of the opening 25000 words (approximately), which introduce most of the major themes and characters and set out the scenario of the story. The completed novel is expected to be around 80000 words in length.
